Content

This course is an introduction to Tłı̨chǫ Yatıı̀, its sounds, vocabulary, and sentence structures. Students will learn to greet another Tłı̨chǫ speaker, offer them food and drink, and talk about everyday topics such as family, clothing, and weather. In addition to learning the language, stories and cultural elements will be integrated throughout the lessons. The course material, Tłı̨chǫ Yatıı̀ eyıts’ǫ Dǫ Nàowoò, is intended for all learners of Tłı̨chǫ Yatıı, both Indigenous and non-Indigenous alike, who want to learn the language for work or for pleasure. The interactive activities will help learners communicate with elders, knowledge keepers, family members, and other members of the community. This course, which is in line with the GNWT Key Competencies of the Our Languages Curriculum at the Emergent and Beginner proficiency scales, has been designed to reflect and express the local language and culture of Tłı̨chǫ Yatıı̀ speakers who live in the NWT.
