Content

This course is an introduction to using Tłı̨chǫ Yatıı̀ on the land.
This course takes place at the outdoor learning centre at École Įtłʼǫ̀ School. Using Indigenous land-based pedagogy, participants will learn about the language and the culture in context. With the land as the teacher and the classroom, students will learn how to communicate by being on the land. As the weather gets warmer, we may hear a Tłı̨chǫ speakers say, “Edıı dı̀ı̀,” as they take off their jacket and understand that it is hot outside. After eating fresh bannock cooked on the fire, we may hear, “Mmm… łèt’è łekǫ,” and understand that the bannock is delicious. The learning will be guided by the students’ interests and experiences on the land, and cultural elements will be infused throughout the lessons through storytelling. This course, which is in line with the GNWT key competencies of the Our Languages Curriculum at the Emergent and Beginner proficiency scales, includes interactive activities that will help learners communicate with each other, as well as with elders, knowledge keepers, family members, and other members of the community.
